Wolfenbüttel war von 1432 bis 1753 Residenz der
Herzöge von
Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, die im Schloss residierten. In
Wolfenbüttel
wurde 1572 eine Bibliothek gegründet, die
Herzog-August Bibliothek hat
heute einen Bestand von rund 1
Million Bände. Die Stadt hat auch bedeutende
Kirchen, wie die
Marienkirche und die barocke
Trinitatiskirche.

Wolfenbüttel was between 1432 and 1753 the residence
of the
Dukes of Brunswick. They had a large castle in
town. In 1572 the ducal
library was founded. Today it has one of the
best collections of ancient books
and manuscripts in the world. The town
has some well known churches among
them St.Trinitatis and St. Mary's.
